Device and System Setup
Before creating a Vision-Guided Robotics (VGR Vision-Guided Robotics is an In-Sight Spreadsheet feature that uses machine vision to guide robot motion through Robotics String Functions and VGR commands.) application, you must install and configure the vision system, robot controller, and supporting devices to ensure reliable image acquisition Acquisition is the process or result of the vision system acquiring a new image. and communication. This section provides a quick setup summary, followed by detailed guidance on device and system setup.
The setup procedure is as follows:
-
Mount the vision system:
-
Stationary vision system: Mount the vision system to a rigid frame outside the moving area of the robot, including the robot hand and the picked part. Ensure that the vision system field of view (FOV) covers the full area where target parts are presented.
-
Robot-mounted vision system: Mount the vision system securely to the robot hand or flange, typically the sixth axis on a six-axis robot. Use a rigid mounting stay to reduce vibration. Ensure that the stay is long enough to prevent the robot hand or gripper from obscuring the vision system FOV.
For more information on mounting options, see Vision System Mounting Options.

-
Configure network settings:
-
After installing the vision system, connect the vision system to the network and configure its network settings for communication with the robot controller and PC.
For more information on configuring network settings, see Network and System Connectivity.
