The firmware on the Cognex Communication Card can be updated to take advantage of the latest features and improvements included in any new VisionPro release. If the current firmware operating on your Cognex Communication Card is incompatible with the latest firmware supplied in this VisionPro release, your VisionPro application will throw a CogIncompatibleFirmwareException exception.

Be aware that installing a newer VisionPro release does not automatically upgrade the firmware, so VisionPro supports a firmware update utility that you launch from a command window as follows:

"%VPRO_ROOT%"\bin\fwuphost.exe --pkg "%VPRO_ROOT%"\bin\<filename>

The firmware package is always installed in the same directory as the fwuphost.exe update utility (%VPRO_ROOT%\bin) and has a filename with the format vm56_firmware_X_X_X_X.pkg.

To view the current firmware version on your Cognex Communication Card, use the --info option of the fwuphost.exe utility. Use the --help option to view all the options the utility supports.
