PC Operating System Requirements

Microsoft® Windows® Operating System Service Pack / Update English French German Japanese Korean Simplified Chinese Spanish
Windows 10 (64-bit) Version 1809 (OS build 17763) or newer

Note: Cognex recommends installing all Windows updates, and running the software on up-to-date operating systems.

PC Hardware System Requirements

Note: The GPU-related requirements are only necessary if you will be installing and using the In-Sight ViDi adapter.
Name Requirement
CPU Intel® Core™ i7 or i9 processor (or equivalent).
GPU

Cognex only supports NVIDIA GPUs.

Consider the following when choosing an NVIDIA GPU:

At a minimum, an NVIDIA® CUDA® enabled GPU. When selecting an NVIDIA GPU, a unit with a higher core clock frequency, CUDA cores and Tensor cores will result in faster computational speeds. Due to this, Cognex strongly recommends the use of NVIDIA Quadro and Tesla GPUs for the following reasons:

  • Support the compute-optimized Tesla Compute Cluster (TCC) mode.
  • Designed and tested for continuous duty-cycle operation.
  • Undergo rigorous testing and qualification by NVIDIA.
Note: For more information, see the NVIDIA® GPU Requirements topic in the In-Sight ViDi Help.
Power Supply Select a power supply that is 1.25 times the system and GPU power requirements.
RAM

When selecting the system RAM, select the greater of:

  • The sum of all GPU memory (for example, if you have an NVIDIA GeForce® RTX™ 2080 Ti GPU, which has 11 GB of memory, the PC should have 22 GB of RAM).

  • The RAM should be one and a half times the typical workspace size. For example, if your typical workspace is 10 GB, the PC should have a minimum of 20 GB of RAM.

System Storage

More than 2 GB of disk space for installation of In-Sight Vision Suite and the adapter software.

Cognex recommends the use of a solid-state drive (SSD), with a minimum amount of free space that is two times the typical workspace size, times the number of concurrent users.

USB Port

USB 2.0 port for a permanent connection to the Cognex Security Dongle.

Note:
  • The software requires that a valid Cognex Security Dongle is installed during all phases of operation. Any attempts to temporarily remove, substitute, or share a Cognex Security Dongle may cause your system to operate incorrectly, and may result in the loss of data.
  • See the Configuring Power Settings for the Cognex Security Service topics for important information about properly configuring the USB ports on your computer.
