Save Images to a USB Drive Using VisionView

What is Needed?

  • A VisionView application.
  • A USB drive or FTP server. When saving images to an FTP server, the FTP server should be running on the network that will receive the images and can be contacted from the VisionView application.
  • In-Sight Explorer to configure the In-Sight vision system's Sensor filmstrip settings.

How are the Images Saved?

  • Any image that appears in the VisionView filmstrip can be saved by clicking the Save button.
  • If the inspection fails or no read is obtained, the filmstrip image can be automatically saved as a bitmap file.

Where are the Images Saved?

Images are saved to a USB drive or FTP server. The location can be specified on VisionView. The images are stored in a subdirectory that is automatically created, based on the sensor's Display Name.

Tip: The Display Name can be configured on VisionView.

How to Set Up

To use the filmstrip on VisionView, it is required to enable the Sensor filmstrip on In-Sight Explorer as well as the filmstrip on VisionView.

  1. From In-Sight Explorer, enable the filmstrip.

  2. Configure the In-Sight Explorer Sensor Filmstrip settings. See Sensor Filmstrip: Spreadsheet View for details.

    Note: It is not necessary to specify the Save Path field as the location for saving images is configured on VisionView.
  3. From VisionView, configure the Filmstrip settings in the Filmstrip Options screen (Setup Mode > Screen Layout > Filmstrip Options) according to your requirements.
  4. In the Filmstrip Options screen, click Edit to open the Location for Saving Images screen.

  5. If saving images to a USB Drive, select the USB Drive tab and specify a directory on the USB drive.

    Note: The VisionView Operator Interface Panel, VisionView VGA and a Windows CE-based HMI panel can store up to 800 images at a time before old images will be overwritten.

  6. If saving images to an FTP server, select the Storage Location tab and specify an FTP location. Specify any required logon information for the server as well.

    Note: Images can be saved to network shares (shared folders). In this case, use the Storage Location tab to configure the necessary settings.
  7. From VisionView, connect to the vision system and start acquiring images. If configured to save failed images automatically, failed images will begin appearing in the USB drive/Storage location.
