Installation Issues

Version 3.2.0 (and Later)

Starting with version 3.2.0, the In-Sight OPC Classic Server runs as a Windows service (Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services).

Although you can have multiple versions of the In-Sight OPC Classic Server installed on your PC, only one version of the In-Sight OPC Windows service may be active at a time. If the version of the In-Sight OPC Classic Server that you're trying to run does not match the version of the installed Windows service, the OPC Classic Server will not function.

When you install a version of the In-Sight OPC Classic Server, that version becomes the active Windows service (even if it is not the highest version number installed on the PC.)

When you uninstall a version of the In-Sight OPC Classic Server, the Windows service is removed from the system. This will prevent all other installed versions of the In-Sight OPC Classic Server from working until the Windows service is re-activated for that specific version of the OPC Classic Server.

To activate the Windows service for any version of the In-Sight OPC Classic Server, run the OPC Service Manager, which is installed (by default) into the following location: C:\Program Files\Cognex\In-Sight\In-Sight OPC Server\OpcServiceManager.exe

Select from the list of installed OPC Services and click Activate. The corresponding version of the In-Sight OPC Classic Server will then be able to function.

If you have installed the Cognex In-Sight OPC Classic Server but it does not appear in the OPC Service Manager, you may need to Repair the installation as follows:

  1. Open the Windows Control Panel
  2. Launch the Add/Remove Programs applet
  3. Locate and select the Cognex application to repair
  4. Click Change/Remove
  5. When the InstallShield Wizard dialog appears, select Repair
  6. Click Next
  7. Once the Repair process completes, try launching the In-Sight OPC Classic Server again.
